Frequently Asked Questions

We know that starting ABA therapy comes with a lot of questions. Here are answers to the ones we hear most from families in Huntsville and Colorado Springs.

About ABA Therapy

Learn the fundamentals of Applied Behavior Analysis and what to expect.

What is ABA therapy?

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is a scientifically validated therapy that uses evidence-based techniques to improve communication, social skills, and daily living skills in children with autism and other developmental conditions. ABA focuses on understanding how behavior works and how it is affected by the environment.

What ages do you serve?

We provide services for individuals ages 6 months through 19 years old with autism spectrum disorder and related developmental disabilities including ADHD, Down syndrome, ODD, epilepsy, cerebral palsy, and intellectual disabilities. Adult consultation services are available on a case-by-case basis.

How long does ABA therapy take to show results?

Every child is different, but many families begin to see meaningful progress within the first few months of consistent therapy. ABA is typically recommended as an ongoing treatment, with most children receiving services for one to three years. Your BCBA will track progress with data and adjust the plan as your child grows.

What is the difference between a BCBA and an RBT?

A Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) is a master's-level clinician who designs and oversees your child's treatment plan. A Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) is a trained therapist who delivers direct one-on-one therapy under the supervision of a BCBA. Both work together as a team to support your child's progress.

What does a typical ABA session look like?

Sessions combine structured teaching with play, natural interactions, and breaks. Your child works one-on-one with an RBT who uses activities tailored to their goals, such as communication exercises, social skills practice, or daily living skills. Data is collected throughout every session to track progress. Sessions can range from a few hours to a full day depending on your child's treatment plan.

Insurance & Cost

Understand your coverage options and how we can help with verification.

Does insurance cover ABA therapy?

Yes, most major insurance plans cover ABA therapy. Alabama and Colorado both have autism insurance mandates requiring coverage. We work with Blue Cross Blue Shield, United Healthcare, Aetna, Cigna, Humana, TRICARE, Wellpoint, Alabama Medicaid, and Colorado Medicaid (Health First Colorado). Our team can help verify your specific benefits.

How much does ABA therapy cost without insurance?

The cost of ABA therapy varies depending on the number of hours recommended and the services included in your child's treatment plan. We offer private pay options for families without insurance coverage or for those who prefer not to use insurance. Contact us to discuss payment options.

Do you accept Medicaid?

Yes, we accept Alabama Medicaid and Colorado Medicaid (Health First Colorado) for ABA therapy services. Our intake team can help you verify your Medicaid benefits and guide you through the authorization process.

Do you accept TRICARE?

Yes, we accept TRICARE through the Autism Care Demonstration program. With our locations near Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville and Fort Carson in Colorado Springs, we serve many military families. TRICARE has specific authorization requirements, and our team can help you navigate the process.

Will you help me with insurance verification?

Absolutely. Our intake team handles insurance verification as part of our enrollment process. We will confirm your benefits, explain your coverage, and help with any authorization requirements so you can focus on your child.

Getting Started

Find out how to begin services and what the enrollment process looks like.

How do I get started with ABA therapy?

The first step is to contact our office for a free phone consultation. From there, we will help you verify insurance, schedule an intake appointment, and complete an assessment. Your child's BCBA will then develop an individualized treatment plan and therapy can begin. Visit our Getting Started page for a detailed walkthrough of each step.

Does my child need a diagnosis to receive ABA therapy?

ABA therapy typically requires a formal diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder or another qualifying condition. If your child has not yet been diagnosed, we recommend speaking with your pediatrician, who can refer you to a developmental specialist for an evaluation.

How long is the wait to get started?

Wait times vary depending on location and availability. We encourage families to contact us as early as possible so we can begin the intake process. Even if there is a wait for therapy to begin, we can start insurance verification and assessment right away.

Do you offer in-home therapy?

Yes, we offer ABA therapy in multiple settings including in-clinic, in-home, in-school, and in the community. Your child's BCBA will recommend the best setting based on the assessment. We often recommend a combination of settings to support skill generalization across environments.
